Quick answer: A melamine floor pad is a melamine foam disc – re-pressed or sheet-form – bonded to a scrub backing, sized 11 to 22 inches for floor machines. It scrubs with water only: the micro-abrasive face lifts scuffs and grime from concrete, stone, terrazzo and epoxy where a chemical mop just moves soil around.
Why Melamine Works on Floors
The same material that powers the retail magic eraser – an open-cell melamine resin foam, manufactured from the same open-cell melamine foam material as our bulk pads – works at floor scale. Each cell wall is a fiber finer than household cloth, so the pad shears scuff marks and embedded dirt off hard floors instead of smearing them. No detergent film is left behind, which matters in traffic lanes: a film-free floor stays clean longer and stays less slippery.
The Three Pad Types
- Hook & loop pads: velour backing for quick-change drivers and 17″/20″ handheld polishers – the daily-polish tool.
- Re-bond pads: melamine chips re-pressed into a dense board with a colored scrub backing – the periodic deep-scrub tool with the longest wear life.
- Composite scrub pads: a colored scrub face on a melamine base, graded by color – red for daily scrub, green for medium duty, up to black for stripping.

Size and Machine Fit
Stock diameters run 11″, 13″, 14″, 17″, 20″ and 22″, with custom 10″-25″ on request. As a rule: walk-behind machines take 11-20″, rider scrubber drivers take 14-22″, and handheld rotary polishers take 17″ or 20″ hook & loop. Matching the pad to the driver plate matters more than any other spec – a pad that overhangs the plate wears unevenly and loads the motor.
How to Choose Density
- 16 kg/m3 – coated and polished floors: gentlest micro-abrasion for daily routes in lobbies and malls.
- 20 kg/m3 – general hard floors: the all-round grade for concrete, ceramic and terrazzo.
- 24 kg/m3 – heavy soil and big machines: warehouses and parking structures, where pad life outweighs softness.
Always test one pad on the least visible area first: on glossy coated finishes, any micro-abrasive can dull a polish layer.
